ICUH Launches Spring 2007 Semester

The International Cyber University for Health (ICUH), an initiative of the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium of Public Health (APACPH) at Yonsei University, is excited to announce the launch of our Spring 2007 semester, commencing March 2nd!

Your Gateway to Public Health Education

ICUH is your educational focal point for accessing high-quality public health education across the Asia-Pacific region. We offer a distance online learning program completely free of charge to anyone seeking information, education, networking opportunities, and research and public health programs. Cyber education creates a learning environment that transcends geographical limitations and time constraints, allowing you to participate in lectures and discussions at your own pace.

Our vision is to explore new horizons and enhance the health of people throughout the Asia-Pacific region through our academic endeavors. ICUH students will have the opportunity to learn from internationally renowned experts and access valuable resources from leading member universities within APACPH.

What’s on Offer This Spring?

We’re pleased to offer a structured curriculum of six exciting courses this semester:

  • System Analysis and Design in Healthcare: Led by Prof. Young Moon Chae, this course will teach you the concepts and methods of systems analysis and design in healthcare. You’ll learn how to apply these principles to real-world scenarios through class projects. (Good news – this course is also available in Mongolian!)
  • Epidemiology: This course is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of epidemiology, including its methodologies, approaches, and applications in preventing and controlling public health problems. (Also available in Mongolian!)
  • Introduction to Health Economics: Prof. Woo Jin Chung will guide you through the basic principles of health economics and how they influence decision-making in the healthcare field.
  • Biostatistics: Designed for students in public health, medicine, and related fields, this course will help you understand fundamental concepts for data analysis, enabling you to apply and present statistical tools effectively. (Prof. Tae Rim Lee)
  • Occupational Health: This course will introduce you to the recognition, diagnosis, prevention, hazard communication, and management of occupational and environmental diseases. You’ll also work through case studies to apply what you learn. (Prof. Jung-Der Wang)
  • International Child Health: This course provides an overview of child health in the Asia-Pacific region, covering childhood disease control, prevention strategies, and child care systems. You’ll gain valuable insight into the issues and challenges facing child health in our region. (Prof. Tomiko Hokama)

Earn Credit Towards Your MPH!

Since last fall, ICUH has offered a credit exchange program to meet the academic needs of graduate students. Credits you earn through ICUH can be formally recognized and count towards a Master of Public Health degree! We have Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in place with the University of Ryukus (Japan), Health Science University (Mongolia), Yanbian University (China), and National Taiwan University (Taiwan), allowing for the transference of course credits to your respective university. We’re also looking forward to establishing MOUs with Curtin University in Australia and National Taiwan University in Taiwan soon!

Engaging Learning Through PBL

We’re also excited to incorporate a problem-based learning (PBL) approach into some of our courses! PBL is a fantastic way to stimulate self-directed learning and critical thinking and promote knowledge sharing in an interactive environment.
