APACPH Secretariat Office

Introduction

APACPH is an international non-profit organization first registered in Honolulu, USA in 1984 by five members from the deans of University of Hawaii, University of Philippines, Beijing Medical University, University of Mahidol, and National University of Singapore. The present regional representatives are from Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and USA. The treasure office and the secretariat office rotated among its member institutions. Current Secretariat based in University of Malaya, Malaysia and Treasurer based in Taipei Medical University, Taiwan. Currently, it has a total of 84 member institutions.

The Vision of the Consortium is to achieve the highest possible level of health of all the people of the nations of the Asia-Pacific region. The Mission of the Consortium is to enhance Regional capacity to improve the quality of life and to address major public health challenges through the delivery of education, research and population health services by member institutions

 In 2013, the secretariat office based in Honolulu was relocated to the University of Malaya. The Secretariat in University of Malaya is located in the Social and Preventive Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Maznah Dahlui, who is the Regional Director of Kuala Lumpur and the APACPH Secretary. UM has been very supportive in term of financing its renovation cost of RM40,000 and allocating a space within the department.

The Asia Pacific Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) KL Secretariat office was officiated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) Prof. Dr. Awang Bulgiba Bin Awang Mahmud on the 15^th May 2013. It is open to the public or anyone who is interested in Public Health.

Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH) is the journal developed from APACPH to capture issues related to public health in the Asia-Pacific regions. Under the leadership of the Chief-in-editor, Prof. Low Wah Yun, the Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health (APJPH) attained an Impact Factor of 1.459 for 2014 which is an increase of 31% from 2013 Impact Factor of 1.111. This number puts APJPH at 90 out of the 162 journals in the Public, Environmental & Occupational Health (Science) Category and at 64 out of the 145 journals in the Public, Environmental & Occupational Health (Social Science) Category.
