APACPH Annual Report 2015

Introduction

APACPH is an international non-profit organization first registered in Honolulu, USA in 1984 by five members from the deans of University of Hawaii, University of Philippines, Beijing Medical University, University of Mahidol and National University of Singapore. The present regional representatives are from Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand and USA. The treasure office and the secretariat office rotated among its member institutions. Current Secretariat based in University of Malaya, Malaysia and Treasurer based in Taipei Medical University, Taiwan. Currently, it has a total of 84 member institutions.
The Vision of the Consortium is to achieve the highest possible level of health of all the people of the nations of the Asia-Pacific region. The Mission of the Consortium is to enhance Regional capacity to improve the quality of life and to address major public health challenges through the delivery of education, research and population health services by member institutions
APACPH OBJECTIVES

  • To enhance the quality and relevance of educational and training programs in public health;
  • To expand knowledge, improve skills and demonstrate effective interventions;
  • To raise awareness, of current, emerging and re-emerging public health issues and develop programs of action for their resolution;
  • To enhance the capacity and sustainability of public health systems; and
  • To assist in policy and leadership development for health.

Activities

1. Accreditation Workshop and Management Board Meeting – Seoul 2015

The Accreditation workshop and Management Board Meeting was held back to back on the 16-17 January, 2015 at HIRA, Seoul. South Korea.

2. Executive Council Meeting – Jakarta 2015

The Executive Council Meeting was held on the 9th March 2015. The meetings was held at the Building B 2nd Floor, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Indonesia.

3. APACPH Accreditation – Universitas Indonesia

Universitas Indonesia became the first Institute to undergo APAPCH accreditation. The site visit of APAPCH accreditation team led by Prof. Dr. Maznah Dahlui (University of Malaya, Malaysia), Prof. Dr. So Yoon Kim (Yonsei University, Korea) and Prof. Dr.Ridwan Amiriddin (Hassanuddin University, Indonesia) took place from 5th to 6th May 2015.

4. Global Health Workshop

The Department Social and Preventive Medicine (SPM), Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya and APACPH-KL (Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health – KL) organized a Global Health Course. The workshop were held at the Multipurpose Room on the 11th June 2015 until 13th June 2015.

5. Consultancy Meeting among APACPH members

Sharing session between Taipei Medical University and Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Malaya on adolescent cohort taken place on 2nd – 3rd September, 2015 at the Taipei Medical University.

6. Executive Council Meeting, General Assembly and Deans and University Presidents Meeting – October 2015

The Executive Council Meeting, General Assembly and Deans and University’s President meeting was held on the 19th October – 20th October, 2015 back to back with the 47th APACPH Conference 2015. The meetings was held at the Grand Royal Panghegar Hotel, Bandung Indonesia hosted by Universitas Indonesia. The General Assembly was attended by Deans of member institutions from Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Fiji, Hong Kong, China, Kazakhstan, Phillipines, Sri Lanka and USA.
During the General Assembly the following universities was inducted as new members:

  • The Islamic State University Syarif Hidayatullah, Indonesia
  • Mulawarman University,Indonesia
  • Mahasarakham University, Thailand
  • Burapha University, Thailand
  • University Putra Malaysia
