There has been considerable international research that has shown higher quality of life (QOL) is associated with social support and close family and peer relationships.
As in many populations, social support and family relationship were very important for QOL among older adults in Bhutan.
A group of researchers had investigated the influence of lifetime adversity, chronic health conditions, spirituality, and social connectedness on QOL among 337 older adults aged between 60 and 101 years in Bhutan.
Using the:
- WHO QOL Questionnaires to assess QOL
- WHO Adverse Childhood Experiences International Questionnaire (modified) & Stressful Life Events Checklist to assess adverse life experiences
this study found that QOL among older adults was influenced by a complex variety of demographic characteristics, life experiences, physical and mental health conditions, spirituality, and social connectedness.
