Today is the 9th Anniversary of our beloved mentor and first Secretary-General of APACPH, Prof Walter Patrick.
Prof Walter K Patrick passed away in San Antonio, Texas on 22nd May 2014. Many in the APACPH community will have fond memories of his contributions to APACPH and Global Health in general. He has been the Secretary-General of APACPH and Head of the Global Health & Medicine Program of Studies in the Medical School since 2004.
He served as professor of Global Health in John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii, UNU-IIGH Board of Advisors and Professor at International Cyber University for Health at the time of his demise. He also served as a Primary Care Physician, Health Officer, Director of Provincial Hospitals, Regional Director of Health Programs and Director of Education & Training at the National level in Sri Lanka, WHO consultant and staff member in Tropical Diseases, Health Education and Community Participation at WHO Headquarter in Geneva, SEARO office in Delhi, India and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during the period 1975-83. Besides that, he served on Editorial Board and as Visiting Professor to several universities and as a consultant to UNICEF and other international agencies, Chair of Community Health & International Health Departments in SPH at the University of Hawaii during 1984-99, and the Director of WHO Collaborating Center for Leadership Development during 1995-2004.
