APACPH Statement on the escalating humanitarian and public health crisis in Gaza

The Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) expresses its profound concern over the escalating humanitarian and public health crisis in Gaza. The ongoing conflict has resulted in catastrophic consequences for the health and well-being of the population, with widespread destruction of healthcare infrastructure, severe shortages of medical supplies, and an alarming rise in mortality and morbidity rates.
We are deeply saddened by the recent loss of eight humanitarian volunteers from Malaysia’s MAPIM organization, who were killed in an airstrike while providing critical aid to displaced families in Gaza. Their sacrifice underscores the urgent need for global solidarity and action to protect civilians and humanitarian workers in conflict zones.
Call to Action
As a leading public health consortium in the Asia-Pacific region, APACPH calls on governments, international organizations, and public health institutions to:

  • Ensure Unrestricted Humanitarian Access: Facilitate the delivery of essential medical supplies, food, clean water, and sanitation services to affected populations in Gaza.
  • Protect Healthcare Workers and Facilities: Advocate for adherence to international humanitarian laws to safeguard healthcare workers and facilities from attacks during conflicts.
  • Rebuild Healthcare Infrastructure: Support long-term investments to restore hospitals, clinics, and public health systems in Gaza.
  • Address Mental Health Needs: Provide psychological support services to mitigate the mental health crisis affecting children and adults exposed to prolonged violence.
  • Strengthen Regional Collaboration: Promote cooperative research and initiatives among Asia-Pacific nations to address public health emergencies arising from conflict situations.

Commitment to Public Health Advocacy

APACPH reaffirms its commitment to advocating for equitable access to healthcare and upholding human rights during humanitarian crises. We stand united with our member institutions, partners, and stakeholders in demanding urgent international intervention to alleviate suffering in Gaza and prevent further loss of life.

Let us honor the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives for humanity by working tirelessly toward peace, justice, and health for all.
