APACPH Statement on the Humanitarian Crisis Following the Earthquakes in Myanmar, Thailand, and the Surrounding Region

The Asia Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) expresses profound concern and solidarity with the people affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Myanmar, Thailand, and neighboring areas. The magnitude 7.7 earthquake, which occurred on March 28, 2025, has resulted in significant loss of life, injuries, and widespread destruction of infrastructure. The aftermath of the disaster, which includes disruption of health services, puts thousands more at risk.

Natural disasters and the humanitarian crisis that follows often impact the most vulnerable in a background of sudden and severe lack of resources for rescue, relief and mitigation.

APACPH stands in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy and calls upon the international community, governments, non-governmental organizations, and individuals in the Asia-Pacific Region and beyond to provide immediate humanitarian assistance, strengthen healthcare services and support restoration of infrastructure. APACPH emphasizes the importance of a coordinated and sustained response to address both the immediate and long-term needs of the affected communities. We urge all stakeholders to come together in solidarity and action during this critical time.
